About Me

Lucy Ferguson is a Norwich-based artist who specialises in print making. Throughout her three years of study at NUA she has explored many controversial contemporary themes and issues, with the topic of mental health a reoccurring feature in her work. Ferguson uses her own research and personal experience with mental health issues as inspiration for her pieces, which enables her to convey a true insight into the struggle of living with mental illness. Her work can sometimes be received in a negative way due to its use of dark humour and harsh commentary on such controversial topics. However, Ferguson uses this to her advantage as it creates debate on the topic concerned, which is the overall aim of the artwork she creates. In her final year of study she discovered her love for screen printing whilst continuing her interest in mental health studies. She has brought these two factors together in her latest collection of prints, covering issues such as eating disorders and wrongful treatment of those affected by mental illness. Ferguson has always had an interest in art therapy studies, and uses art and printmaking as a method of releasing her own emotions. She hopes that her work can help others to express their frustrations too, and that it continues to start conversations about mental health, helping it to become a normalised topic where people in need can reach out.
