Gaslight

“Gaslight” is the second of three large scale screen prints in Lucy Ferguson’s ‘American Dream’ collection. The piece symbolises the emotional abuse many people face, who suffer from mental health issues sometimes even caused by this abuse. Living with mental illness is challenge enough, but many people in these situations are often emotionally manipulated on top of this by the people who are supposed to support them. Gaslighting is the action of using manipulative tactics in order to gain power, control or plant uncertainty into another persons mind causing the individual to question their reality. This print aims to bring light to these forms of abuse and mistreatment of mental health sufferers which are too often are overlooked.
